About West Seattle Pee Wee Baseball

The West Seattle Association of PeeWee Baseball (WSAPWB) was formed in 1957 to provide a competitive youth baseball organization for the West Seattle Area. The league started serving children ages 7-10 years of age.  Initially, the league had 4 teams and by the early 1970's had grown to 28 teams serving 448 children in the West Seattle community and was the largest association in the US devoted to Pee Wee Baseball.

In 1973, over 500 children were cut from the Association due to a lack of baseball facilities.  Community leaders and parents in the Association in cooperation with the City of Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation searched for additional playfield areas.  Substantial sums of money were raised through various fund raising drives.  It was at this time that a deal was struck to develop the Lower Riverview field into 4 baseball fields and has been the home of West Seattle Pee Wee Baseball ever since.

It's doubtful that the small group that formed this league over fifty years ago ever envisioned what would become of what they began. We now have players who are the children of former WSAPWB players – a testament to the foundation upon which the league is built.

Today the Association serves children ages 5-10 years of age filling roughly 30 teams in the Shetland, Pinto and Mustang divisions.  As part of the PONY organization, our goal is to teach fundamentals of baseball, instill the values of good sportsmanship and fair play, and build a sense of community amongst all those that participate in the League.

Our operating budget comes from team sponsorships, registration fees, Snack Shack sales and tournament fees. As a not-for-profit organization, every penny that comes into the League is re-invested into operation expenses.

All of WSAPWB is run by volunteers - from the Executive Board all the way to those who mow fields and run the Snack Shack. As such, we rely on the willingness of people associated with the League to step up and take on the commitment of participating in helping make this League run. If you're willing to take on such a commitment, please contact
a member of the Executive Board. And we're always looking for ways to improve our organization, so if you have suggestions, we'd like to hear those too.
